Fort Worth MSBL - Tigers Baseball Club | Policy Statement, etc...
The Tigers Baseball Club is an organization of men over the age of 30 who play baseball (hardball) in the Fort Worth - Dallas area. We currently have our home field at the Parks at Texas Star in Euless. If you can pitch a baseball or have strong baseball skills, we would like to have you to a practice. Due to league rules, we may only add players to our team at specific times, but we allways want to scout new talent for those times. |
Tiger Baseball 1999 Policy Statement The Tigers Baseball Club is an independent association affiliated with the Men's Senior Baseball League of Fort Worth, Texas, a non profit corporation. MSBL is a national organization dedicated to providing adults with the opportunity to play baseball. The Tigers Baseball Club is organized by its members in a manager-team organization. The team manager is selected by vote at the end of each playing year to serve for the next year. An associate manager is also selected at the same time by vote. The manager can be fired if half of the paid up players on the team sign a petition for a recall vote and after two weeks notice of the election, 2/3 of the paid up players vote in person or by proxy to recall. Any such petition shall be presented to the associate manager who shall give a copy to the manager, send notices and conduct the vote. The assocate manager would then become the manager and a new associate manager would be elected. Repeat as necessary, refrain if possible. The manager is responsible for all team functions and represents the team on the board of directors of the Fort Worth MSBL. The manager calls and directs all practices, makes all fielding assignments, sets the batting lineup, makes all trades, player decisions, drafts, waivers, player additions and cuts, invitations to play or return to the team, decisions as to home fields, purchasing decisions, fee setting decisions, keeps the equipment and makes all decisions involving the team. No refunds of any team fee or any portion thereof will be given under any circumstances. The manager, in his sole discretion may waive this requirement. This is not a democracy. The manager may delegate responsibilites to individual team members (treasurer, coaches, practice dates, projects, etc...) who serve at the pleasure of the manager. The associate manager takes the duties of the manager in the absence of the manager. For 1999, the manager is Basil L. Hoyl, Jr. 4001 Airport Fwy., Ste. 190, Bedford, TX 76021. Telephone (817) 685-0555 or voice mail (817) 660-4983 or fax (817) 685-0593. His web page is http://www.ticnet/com/lawyer The Associate manager is David Booher The Treasurer is Pete Palasota. The treasurer is charged with collecting and disbursing all team funds. Don't ask for money from the treasurer without a receipt. Umpire fees are to be paid in advance this year rather than at the games. (This simplification of duties was required this year to secure the services of our new treasurer as he would rather be warming up than collecting three or four dollars from everyone.) Roy Kinchloe heads the uniform committee and is in charge of all things in uniform. Scott Williams is the pitching coach and Dan Davis is outfield coach. David Booher is infield coach. Pete Palasota is batting coach. Dan Benton is baserunning coach. Dan Benton is also in charge of physical training and conditioning outside of games and practices and keeping us in mind of the need for physical training. Coaches should take care that players in their positions understand fundamental skills involved in those positions and should be involved in practices to train players in those positions. Each coach should obtain such assistants to aid them in those duties as assistants are avilable. Everyone is expected to help everyone else by constructive criticism, advice (good and bad) and encouragement. The manager will still make assignments and lineups, but expects that position coaches will keep him apprised of player development. Batting and fielding lineups are independent. MSBL says we must bat 10 if we have them. I plan to bat 10 unless we only have 11 at the game. Others will not bat, but might substitute during the course of the game. They might not substitute, however, especially if it is a close game and the opposing pitcher is not changed. We need to have real fields and the cost per game for our home games at Texas Star will be either $50 or $75 (depending on lights) for unprepared fields (no lime down the base lines or for the batter's box and no raking prior to the game), depending on negotiations and who else wants to play at Texas Star. Umpire fees are about $37 per game, league fees should be about $1000, we need about $350 for game balls and for new practice balls as the baseballs we have in the bag have been battered about for a year and are mostly brown. They can still be used, but it is nice to have white balls once in a while. If we want gatoraid in the water at some of the games, that costs money and ice will be a couple of bucks for the water cooler for the games we have it. (I don't want to be cheap, but I will nickle and dime myself to death if I let myself). We will want some practices this year and renting a practice field is about $10 for zboaz in daylight and $20 at night. In addition to these fees, we have playoff games at the end of the season. I expect that we will have to pay umpires for at least two games, and maybe five or more games (after the 25 game season), as well as some field fees should we choose to and be able to have our home games at our home field. Pete Palasota and I discussed the estimated fees and arrived at $265 for the season plus the jersey and whatever else you want on the uniforms. No particular caps are requred and no particular pants are required, but I and some others want to wear the white with blue pinstripe pants and a plain white gothic D on the cap. I set the roster at 17 and expect everyone to make every game and every practice. If you can not make the game, you should let me or David Booher know in advance. If you can not make a practice, I expect you to let me or David know in advance. Do not wait for us to contact you. You should be contacting us to determine practice dates and times and information about games. If the reason you can't be at practice is that you are practicing with another team, that will probably be acceptable, but other excuses will seem shallow. Missing games because of girlfriends, jobs or being jailed should be considered in light of the fact that you could break the date, quit the job and sell your car for bond. Games are Sundays and Wednesdays to make up rainouts. It will be hot. The season is long. If you can't hack it, don't take a roster slot from someone who can. Our team has a policy on cursing which is separate from the cursing policy of the league. (Yes, the league has policies too and you will have to read and sign them...) We want to bring wives and children to our games and we will not tolerate our wives and children cursing the opposing teams. To secure this goal, we must set the example and not curse the opposing team or umpire or the baseball or your manager or anything else. As we did last year, if you curse, please bench yourself the next inning from the field. If you see your friend curse, please point it out to him. Nuff said. There will be no smoking in the dugout or on the field. Please do not drink during or before the games and no drugs will be tolerated during or before the games. I will not tolerate an intoxicated (even slightly - that means one beer is too much) facing the kind of pitching we have in this league. One drink and you are benched that game and for the next game. I don't have to "prove" you had a drink. If I think you did, you will be benched. If you want to appeal that decision, get 2/3 of the people to vote me out. I will still have two weeks to bench you before the vote. If it happens again, it will go to the league. Intoxication, no matter how slight, affects your ability to bat and field the ball and you owe it to your team not to hurt us in this regard. Besides, it is too dangerous to face these pitchers drunk. I don't care how good of a player you are. Nuff said. This is a short modification from the policy statement given out at practices in late January/early February. PLAY BALL
